Embracing Shadows

“…in the midst of darkness, light persists.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Shadows come as close as we allow them to. And they might even dance to the rhythm of our thoughts, given a chance.

Pain, grief and loss are inevitable. Finding strength to deal with the sea of emotions, and to combat madness, is an ongoing exercise. But, there is always light as much as there is darkness.

Note: A thought inspired by Sanaa Rizvi at Prompt Nights, “When shades of loss weave with pattern of madness.

  1. I love this, Khaya. We are a combination of light and shadow, the elements that create depth. Embracing our whole selves and then choosing the lightness of being seems to be a profound part of the human journey. <3

  2. This is really funny because just the other day my friends and i were talking about just this same thing, embrace the darkness and the light as they come. Thanks for this Khaya

    1. Hi Catherine! As you brilliantly put “the exponential problem of multifaceted creativity” on your “Brainstorming” post, there’s always a seed that could well develop into something. But your advice on multitasking, helped me to reconsider all my scattered projects. So, I’ll leave this seed be for now. 🙂 Thank you for reading, always!

  3. This is so serendipitous Khaya. I have just recently read the Japanese author,Junichiro Tanizaki’s book ‘In Praise of Shadows’. It’s a very small, and very old book (he wrote it in the 1930’s) but it makes you stop and think about light and shade from a very different perspective. Your poem complements it beautifully from an emotional perspective 🙂

  4. Whistles!!! ❤️❤️ this is absolutely profound writing, Khaya ? love the idea of “there is always light as much as there is darkness” it’s as martin Luther king says; “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that” and that much is evident in this gem of a poem. Beautifully penned. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support ❤️❤️

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa
